Welcome back to Sacred City’s Liturgy Recap. Here you will find a complete rundown of all that happened as we gathered this past Sunday!

- Opening Song:

CALL TO WORSHIP

Hear the call to worship from ...

Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name;
Make known his deeds among the peoples!
Sing to him; sing praises to him;
Tell of all his wondrous works!
Glory in his holy name;
Let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice!
Seek the LORD and his strength;
Seek his presence continually!
Remember the wondrous works that he has done,
His miracles and the judgments he uttered,
O offspring of Israel his servant,
Sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!
Sing to the LORD, all the earth!
Tell of his salvation from day to day.
Declare his glory among the nations,
His marvelous works among all the peoples!
For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised,
And he is to be held in awe above all gods.
For all the gods of the peoples are idols,
But the LORD made the heavens.
Splendor and majesty are before him;
Strength and joy are in his place.

CONFESSION OF SIN

Let us confess our sins to the Father together…

Almighty and merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned
against you and one another
in both our actions and our inactions.
We recognize that in Jesus Christ
our light has come,
yet often we choose to walk
in shadows and ignore the light.
Gracious God, forgive our sins
and remove from us
the veil of darkness
that shrouds our lives.
Illumined by your Word and sacrament,
may we rise to the radiance of Christ’s glory. Amen.

ABSOLUTION

Hear the good news Ephesians 2:8-9 brings us...

By grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, so that no one may boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.

PROFESSION OF FAITH

Let us profess our faith together...

We profess and affirm that repentance
is a grace made available to us only by the Gospel of Jesus.
By repentance,
we are made fully aware
of the filthiness of our sins
and the holy nature and righteous law of God.
In this we come to understand God’s mercy in Christ.
Although repentance is not to be rested in,
as any satisfaction or pardon for sin,
yet no sinner may expect pardon without it.
Just as there is no sin so small,
that is not deserving of damnation;
so there is no sin so great
that can bring damnation upon those who truly repent.
We must confess our sins to God
And to those that have been affected by our sin
so that we might be reconciled in love.
This is true repentance.

BENEDICTION

As we leave here today…

May God bless you with discomfort at easy answers, half truths, and superficial relationships, so that you may live deep within your heart.
May God bless you with anger at injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people, so that you may work for justice, freedom and peace.
May God bless you with tears to shed for those who suffer from pain, rejection, starvation, and war, so that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and to turn their pain in to joy.
And may God bless you with enough foolishness to believe that you can make a difference in this world, so that you can do what others claim cannot be done. Peace be with you!
