Welcome back to Sacred City’s Liturgy Recap. Here you will find a complete rundown of all that happened as we gathered this past Sunday!
- Opening Song:
CALL TO WORSHIP
Hear the call to worship from Psalm 24 ...
The earth is the LORD's, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it;
for he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.
Who may ascend the hill of the LORD?
Who may stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to an idol
or swear by what is false.
He will receive blessing from the LORD
and vindication from God his Savior.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek your face, O God of Jacob.
Selah
Lift up your heads, O you gates;
be lifted up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The LORD strong and mighty,
the LORD mighty in battle.
Lift up your heads, O you gates;
lift them up, you ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is he, this King of glory?
The LORD Almighty—
he is the King of glory!

CONFESSION OF SIN
Let us confess our sins to the Father together…
Gracious God,
having heard your Word,
we thankfully remember the life
of our Lord Jesus Christ on this earth.
Yet we also acknowledge our failure
to respond earnestly
and faithfully to his witness.
We confess that we have mistaken Jesus
for a mere earthly king,
friendly companion,
or problem-solver,
failing to honor him as the ruler of all creation.
We do not appreciate the depth
of his passion and sacrifice on the cross,
and we fail to acknowledge him as our only way of salvation.
We have not walked faithfully
in the way of Jesus Christ.
Forgive us, we pray,
and bring us ever more fully
into the joy of union
with Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
ABSOLUTION
Hear the good news that 1 Corinthians tells us...
For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
To you who believe in the Gospel and confess your sins this morning, the cross of Christ is the power of God unto salvation!

LITURGICAL PRAYER
Let us pray to our faith together...
O God,
who by the leading of a star
revealed Your only begotten Son to the Gentiles,
mercifully grant that we, who know You now by faith,
may after this life have the fruition of the glorious Godhead;
through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

BENEDICTION
As we leave here today…
May our Lord Jesus Christ,
the One who came with grace and truth,
also fill your hearts with grace and truth,
as you serve him in the days ahead.
And may the joy of the Lord—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—be your strength.
L: Peace be with you!
C: And also with you!
