Sermon Pre-view:
So far in Mark we have seen people calling Jesus a slew of names. The demons call Him "The Holy One of God" and "The Son of God". The people call Him "blasphemer", "glutton & drunkard", "fast-breaker", "sabbath-breaker", and finally in 3:21 we see His own family say that Jesus is "out of His mind"! But Jesus knew who He truly was. He knew that He was still God's Son in whom the Father was well pleased. It was this identity that He rested and functioned within in the face of accusation.
We are often blind to who Jesus really is and what He came to do. We, like the people in the story of Mark, can assume Jesus to be one way(often just like us) when in reality, He is not like us at all. We too often forget our identity that is in Christ through faith, and we, unlike Christ, function out of our own made up identities and become crushed by other peoples opinions of us.
How could the people in the time of Mark be so confused about His identity? How can we also be so seemingly in the dark about who Jesus is? These questions and topics will be covered this week as hear the word of God preached from Mark 3:20-30.
Songs we will be singing this week:
"Oh Taste and See" by Jenn Johnson
"Man of Sorrows (Hallelujah, What A Savior)" by Ascend the Hill
