The parables of Jesus. If you've ever read them and felt confused, you are probably in good company. In Mark 4:1-20, our sermon text for this week, we will focus in on one of Jesus most famous parables, or as Jesus seems to put it, this parable is the one which unlocks all of the other parable's He will tell. Jesus told parables like this knowing that they would be simple and the same time confounding. This is why He bookends the parable of The Sower with the call to "listen", to "hear if you have ears to hear". But "The Sower" (Jesus) nonetheless sows the seeds of the Kingdom of God generously for all to hear and receive, knowing full well that unless the people listening had the secret to unlock the meaning of the parable, they would leave none the wiser.

Why did Jesus choose to speak in this way?

Why did he only explain the parable to His disciples?

If Jesus is The Sower in the story, and the seed in The Good News of the Gospel, that means that we are the different surfaces the seed gets scattered on. Where do you find yourself fitting into the parable?

What is the key that we need to understand the parables of Jesus, and how do we receive it?

All these questions and more will be addressed as we sit under the preaching of God's Word from Mark this Sunday. Come with eager ears that are ready to "listen".

Songs we will be singing this week...

"Praise is Rising (Hosanna)"

"Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery"

"Rock of Ages"

"Amazing Grace"
